Pyjama Making Workshop - Dressmaking in 4 Weeks

Our workshops are open to anyone aged 16 and over. There’s no upper age limit — if you enjoy making, you’re welcome.
Beginners Dressmaking
Classes with max 4 participants are held in our Harrogate Store
Level - Basic sewing knowledge (no dressmaking experience required)
Objective - To equip participants with the skills and confidence to read, understand and follow a commercial dressmaking pattern. Using the Jamie Pyjama pattern from Tilly & The Buttons, we will create a beautifully finished pair of pyjama bottoms for ourselves, a friend or family member. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid introduction to beginner dressmaking techniques and the ability to approach future garment projects with greater independence.
WEEK 1 - How to read the pattern envelope and preparing to make the pyjamas. Back of the envelope details and what they mean. What’s in the pattern envelope. Design decisions, fabric selections, size options, taking body measurements and cutting out the pattern.
WEEK 2 - Cutting out fabric pieces, marking notches and starting the construction process
WEEK 3 - Construction of the pyjamas - sewing the side seams and crotch curve
WEEK 4 - Completion of the pyjamas - waistband and hemming
The Jamie Pyjamas pattern from Tilly & The Buttons is included in the price of this course, together with thread and waist elastic. You just need to bring along your chosen fabric. Please refer to the pattern envelope **here** for fabric recommendations and length required. Feel free to contact us if you need help with this. Please note that this pattern is drafted for a maximum hip circumference of 61 inches and waist of 53 inches.
